Senior Actionball Rules

Indoor Netball rules apply where there are no specific Actionball rules advised below:

The positions are:

- Goal Shooter (GS) - attacking goal third and circle, centre third

- Goal Attack (GA) - attacking goal third and circle, centre third

- Wing Attack (WA) - all thirds not including the goal circles, can shoot 2 point shots from outside the goal circle

- Wind Defence (WD) - all thirds not including the goal circles, can shoot 2 point shots from outside the goal circle

- Goal Defence (GD) - defensive third and circle, centre third

- Goal Keeper (GK) - defensive third and circle, centre third

There is a minimum of 3 females and a maximum of 3 males

The male players must play in the following areas

- 1 goal shooter or goal attack, 1 centre court player, 1 goal defence or goal keeper (ie. no more than 1 male in each third)

Teams consist of 6 players and may have substitutes. Teams may play with a minimum of 4 players

The duration of the game is 2 X 13 Minute Halves, 1 minute for half time

The WD's from both teams have a toss up at the beginning of the quarter to determine the centre pass direction. Play commences when a successful toss up has been completed. (A successful Toss up is to be caught by either WD)

At the beginning of each half the WA's are behind the defensive transverse line for their respective teams

All other players are within the normal starting positions as per Indoor Netball rules (GS and GK must start within the goal circle)

Nets may be used to pass the ball but cannot be touched by any part of a player - Penalty: A free pass to the non offending side

Any net abuse results in a free pass to the non offending side as per Indoor Netball rules

After a successful goal, the GK or GD takes the ball at the top of the defensive circle to continue play

A 2 point shot is taken from outside the goal circles, a 1 point shot is taken from within the goal circle.

If a 2 point shot is unsuccessful, and the attacking team get the rebound, a 1 point shot must be attempted (the ball must not be thrown out to a player outside the circle) Penalty: free pass to the non offending team

If a 1 point shot is unsuccessful and the attacking team get the rebound, the attacker may pass the ball to a player outside the circle for a 2 point shot attempt (as long as the ball touched the ring or another player and replay rules do not apply)

If in the attempt of a rebound or 1 point shot the GS/GA are obstructed or contacted and a penalty awarded, the GS/GA may pass the ball to a player outside the circle for a 2 point shot attempt

A shot is successful if it passes completely through the goal ring. The shot can be bounced off the net and does not need to hit the goal ring prior to a successful goal scored.
